Montague Harbor – Galiano Island
Day 8 of our trip, yesterday we travelled from Silva Bay to Montague Harbor. We plan to stay two nights. Here is the route that we took from Silva Bay to Montague. It took about 2 hours, and the seas were very calm. There was a bit of fog on the Vancouver side to Straights of Georgia that prevented us from seeing Vancouver.
Since it was such a calm trip I decided to shoot some drone video while we were underway on the west side of Galiano Island.
The video was shot using my DJI Mini 2 drone. The boat was in autopilot mode, however Marcia was technically the one watching out for traffic while I was flying the drone. It is not difficult to launch the drone off of a moving boat, but landing it is another story. Coming to a stop is necessary to get the drone on board.
Radio Traffic:
While we are underway, we always have the VHF radio on channel 16. Since are are not far from the US border, we pick up lots of radio traffic from US Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound, just like how when we are in the San Juan Islands we can always hear Victoria Coast Guard broadcasts. Well one of the locals radioed back to the US Coast Guard to point out that their signal was too strong and they they were broadcasting into Canadian waters and that they needed to turn down their transmitting power. No response from the US Coast Guard. That was the most funny radio conversation that we heard all day.
