Roche Harbor and On To Prevost Harbor
After the Bayline Rendezvous we found ourselves in the cozy confines of Roche Harbor, waiting out a particularly fierce storm. As the rain lashed and the winds howled, we took refuge in this charming marina, making the most of our extended stay.
Roche Harbor: A Sanctuary in the Storm
Roche Harbor, with its historic charm and picturesque setting, proved to be the perfect sanctuary during the storm. The marina’s facilities offered much-needed comfort and respite. We indulged in hot meals and drinks at the local restaurants. The storm, which initially seemed a setback, turned into an opportunity to delve deeper into the rich history and vibrant community of this harbor.
Our Next Destination Prevost Harbor
Once the storm passed, we set sail for our next destination: Prevost Harbor on Stuart Island. The 11-mile journey was a refreshing change, with clear skies and some medium chop on the waters. The scenic beauty of the San Juan Islands unfolded before us, making the sail a delightful experience.
Arriving at Prevost Harbor
As we approached Prevost Harbor, we were greeted by its serene beauty. Nestled on Stuart Island, Prevost Harbor is a hidden gem, less crowded and more tranquil compared to some of the more popular spots in the San Juans. We were fortunate to find a spot on the dock, ensuring easy access to the island’s many attractions. It was quite amazing to pull in around noon and find the dock completly empty.
Exploring Stuart Island
Stuart Island is a paradise for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Over the next couple of nights, we immersed ourselves in the island’s offerings:
- Hiking Trails: The island boasts several hiking trails, each offering breathtaking views of the surrounding waters and forests.
- Wildlife Watching: Stuart Island is home to diverse wildlife.
