Filling the hole where the radar was.

After we installed the Simrad NSS 16 which integrates the radar, chartplotter, depth finder and autopilot into one large screen, we were left with several holes in the dashboard where devices that are no longer needed were installed. Looking like this:

Next the new panel partially installed:

And finally after getting the screw caps on and shrinking the surface with a heat gun, this is how the final part looks.

And you can see that the panel color matches what we did when we installed the NSS16.

Since we could not use the original aluminum panels that had large holes in them, I decided to manufacture new panels. I started with 1/4 inch white starboard cut to the same shape as the original panel. Then the edges were routered for rounded edges, and the panels are covered with heat-shrink woodgrain vinyl coverings, and put into place.

We previously did the same treatment for where the autopilot controllers were replacing it with a multi-port USB charging station which matches this new panel.

Overall improving the look of the 4788.
