The 516 acre island is privately owned, and boaters may not go ashore anywhere on the island. Boaters may view the cliffsides as they motor past and view the Mouflon sheep and other rare animals like the European Fallow Deer and Japanese Sika deer.
In 1969 Spieden island was developed as a “Safari Island”.
It is currently owned by James Jannard, founder and major owner of Oakley Sunglasses which purchased the island which he maintains as a private wildlife sanctuary.
