Cockpit lighting
When we first toured this 4788 Pilothouse before we purchased it, one of the things that stood out was the damaged cockpit lights, that I vowed to fix as one of my first repairs… Well other thing got in the way like new batteries, solar panels, vhf radio, and other fun stuff.
Today was the day to replace the cockpit lights. Here is what things looked like at the start of the project.
The primary tools and parts for the project wire cutters, new light fixtures, some heat shrink butt splice connectors and a heat gun (not shown).
Here is a link to the part in case you need it.
Started by replacing the one that was already dangling out.
The I popped out the other fixture and replaced them both.
And here is the final outcome, with the lights on.
Next I pulled out the incandescent bulbs and replaced them with white LED bulbs.
Below is the old bulb versus the new bulb. These LED bulbs were leftovers from a kit that I had purchased for my car to convert to led.
Here is a comparison in the same photo comparing the yellowed incandescent bulb with the pure white LED bulbs.
Next on to the upper cockpit lights which don’t put out much light at all.
And swapping them out to get much better lighting using less power.
That is now complete. All of the cockpit lights are now functional, no broken lenses, and all are running with white LED bulbs to save on the battery bank.
