English Camp and Then the Orca Show
Today while staying at Roche Harbor we went for a tender trip. Note the dinghy is the 11ft inflatable RHIB that can load on top of the boat, the tender is our 16.5 foot fiberglass hull boat that we bring along, or that the boys bring along.
We started out with a short trip around the corner to Garrison Bay where we docked at English Camp, and went for lovely a 1.7 mile hike.
Here is a short video of the hike at English Camp.
After the hike on the way back to Roche, Marcia says “lets go around the outside of Henry Island”. Basically, lets take the long way home. The outside trip started out a bit cold as shown in the photo below, but it warmed up as we approached the north end of Henry island.
That was a good trip idea by Marcia since we ran into Orca at the north end of Henry Island by Battleship Island. Earlier I mentioned that it warmed up at the north end of the island. Well the reason that it warmed up is that we were no longer being wind blow while underway. We came to a stop for about 20 minutes to watch the Orca from a distance.
Later investigation determined that these were likely transient and not the southern pod. They were however putting on quite a show, with breeching and spy-hopping.
The photos aren’t so great, but we were quite a way off and these were shot with a cell phone. Next time I will take the better camera.
