39-Day Canadian Boating Adventure: A Journey Through British Columbia’s Waters

Our 39-day adventure through the waterways of British Columbia was nothing short of spectacular. Covering a total of 1069 miles, we explored stunning harbors, quiet coves, and lively marinas. Here’s a summary of each stop on our trip, with links to the full blog posts for more details.


Day 1: Montague Harbour (35.9 miles)

One of our longer travel days took us to Rebecca Spit, where we anchored and enjoyed the natural beauty of this stunning location.

We reached Grace Harbour in Desolation Sound, where the warm waters were perfect for swimming and relaxing.

A short journey brought us to the Susan Islets, where we harvested oysters and clams for dinner, enjoying the solitude of the anchorage.

Teakerne Arm offered us the chance to stern tie near a waterfall, and we enjoyed a day full of swimming and paddleboarding.

Fishing and scenic beauty were the highlights of our journey to Walsh Cove, where we set shrimp pots and enjoyed the tranquility of the cove.

Our next stop was Von Donop Marine Park, where we experienced a gray and overcast day but were delighted by sightings of humpbacks and dolphins.

Day 13: Chameleon Harbour (57.1 miles)
A long day on the water brought us to Chameleon Harbour, with incredible wildlife sightings including orcas, humpbacks, and even a Minke whale.

Day 14: Blind Channel (20.5 miles)
We arrived at Blind Channel, where we met up with the Bellingham Yacht Club for the next leg of our journey and enjoyed schnitzel at the resort.

Day 15: Lagoon Cove (52.9 miles)

Lagoon Cove was our next destination, with strong currents pushing us along. We were welcomed by the rustic charm of the marina and enjoyed a potluck with fellow boaters.

Echo Bay Marina offered a two-day stop where we enjoyed live music, explored the area, and prepared for the next part of our adventure.

Our journey to Claydon Bay in Grappler Sound was marked by rainy weather, where we anchored and rode out the storm.

A short trip brought us to Turnbull Cove, where we joined other boats in the harbor and enjoyed a quieter day.

Day 20: Sutherland Bay (19.4 miles)
At Sutherland Bay, we were greeted by bear sightings on the beach, making for an exciting arrival.

We arrived at Sullivan Bay Marina after a wet and chilly ride, where we enjoyed a hot shower and some well-deserved rest.

Our journey to Waddington Bay was highlighted by beautiful landscapes and whale sightings, making it a memorable day on the water.

We navigated through the fog to Mound Island, where we anchored near a midden beach and explored the area.

Port McNeill provided a much-needed rest stop where we caught up on supplies and enjoyed a night out at Devis Bath Brewing Company.

We returned to Lagoon Cove, where we enjoyed more of the marina’s hospitality and prepared for our longest travel day yet.

Our journey to Shoal Bay took us through strong currents and rapids, but we were rewarded with a peaceful anchorage at the end of the day.

Day 29: Octopus Islands (27.1 miles)
Octopus Islands provided us with a perfect spot to stern tie and explore the area, including an old fishing cabin full of memorabilia.

Our return to Browns Bay Marina brought back memories of last year, and we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Dockside Restaurant.

Another day at Browns Bay gave us time to relax and prepare for the final stretch of our journey.

Day 32: Tenedos Bay (46.2 miles)
We made our way to Tenedos Bay, where we enjoyed a calm and peaceful anchorage, ready for the next day’s adventure.

At Okeover Arm, we limited out on oysters and clams, which Marcia baked into a delicious fresh sourdough loaf for dinner.

Gorge Harbour welcomed us with calm waters and a scenic setting, where we enjoyed the tranquility of the anchorage.

A long day on the water brought us to Tribune Bay on Hornby Island, where we found a perfect spot to anchor and relax.

Day 36: Nanaimo (43.7 miles)

Nanaimo was our final major stop before heading home, where we enjoyed dinner at the Dinghy Dock Pub and reflected on our journey.

Day 38: Ganges (19.4 miles)
We spent our last full day at Ganges on Salt Spring Island, enjoying a bike ride into town and soaking in the final moments of our adventure.

Day 39: Home (66 miles)
The final stretch brought us back home to Sandy Point, WA, marking the end of our incredible 39-day journey. We covered 1069 miles, making memories at every stop along the way.
