Since we left the crab traps out yesterday we needed to come out to pick them up. Due to the tides and the marina entrance issues at Sandy Point we left at the 9:30am high tide with plans to make a day of it and to return around 7:30pm.

This was also the first trip that we tried out our new Simrad VHF radio that had just been installed. I need to go back to the manual to find out how to turn off the AIS boat nearby alarms. It seems to think that anytime we are within about 5 miles of another boat that we are on a collision course. I need to adjust that alarm to not be so sensitive. I would really like it to tell me if I am near another boat, but by near I mean ¼ mile or less. Time for some reading in the manual.

We headed west from Sandy Point to Sucia Island and anchored in Echo Bay near Ewing Island and we took the tender to shore in Ewing bay with the dogs, and we had nice walk on the trail to the west along the echo bay shoreline.

At Ewing Bay we saw a fish fossil that we were told was 180 million years old based on the dating of the rock formation it was in. I have seen palm leaf fossils before, we really look a lot like just some grooves in the rock. This was the first fossil that I have seen that actually looks like something.

After returning to the boat with the dogs, we had a leisurely time on the upper deck (fiesta deck) using the new deck furniture to enjoy the sun. The new deck furniture is comfortable; however it needs something to keep the cushions from sliding around. That is now on my to do list.

After leaving Echo Bay on Sucia island we travelled south of Matia and Puffin islands, towards Lummi Island to bring in our crab traps. Just north of Clark and Barnes islands we saw a pair of Dahls Porpoise, but like the typical porpoise in our area they were too quick to capture in a photo.

We picked up our crab traps at Legoe Bay and then headed over to Clark Island for dinner on the boat.

After dinner the tides were high enough to get back into the Sandy Point Marina so we headed home.
