Chatting with a neighbor the other day, who has a view of where we dock our boat, they made a comment about how smooth our docking process was. No screaming and yelling, just a nice controlled arrival at the dock. It might look that way, but it doesn’t always feel that way. Being at either helm, and not being able to see the boat to the stern or how close we are to the dock can be very stressful.

In the theme of the Below Deck TV show, I have purchased some on board radios to use when docking, or in other stressful situations. These are the Motorola Talkabout T600 radios with the Motorola 1518 Surveillance headsets.

It would be great to have communications when pulling or dropping the anchor that doesn’t involve leaning out the door and shouting. The shouting always makes us look so amateur. These radios do the job.

I have owned several of the Motorola Talkabout radios over the years, what makes these interesting is that they are waterproof and they float. On the floating part, they do float as long as you are using the factory rechargeable batteries. If you install different batteries they may not float.

Hopefully these radios will prevent me from having to wear one of the “Sorry for what I said while docking the boat” shirts

These radios also have a headset jack so you can plug in a surveillance headset with the ear plug for listening and a lapel microphone for talking. Very cool.
