Boat Projects – Pre Season To Do List
While our mechanic has the engines torn apart replacing all the things that have been neglected by the previous owners, we have our own list of to do items.
- New fuel filters:
- Port engine fuel filter
- Starboard engine fuel filter
- Generator fuel filter (Done)
- Diesel furnace fuel filter
- Replacing more lights. The difference between the original lights and the new lights is amazing. We have about 35 more lights to swap out and we will be doing that over time. The two heads are next on the list for light replacement, as soon as our next 10 light fixtures arrive.
- Checking fluid levels on all of the lead acid batteries that we have for the house battery bank.
- Hydronic heat hose replacement. After blowing a hose on the hydronic heat we have decided that we need to replace a majority of the hydronic heat hose from the Webasto diesel heater. This will take some time and I really want to have the engine work done before we start this. We have purchased most of the parts we need and just waiting on delivery now. We will be using pex heating pipe rather than the rubber type pipe that is currently in use.
- Replace the vent fan for the 2 heads. That fan that is there now is extremely loud, so much so that we rarely use it.
- New starting battery for the generator. This is one of 3 batteries on board that we have not yet replaced. Completed February 1st. But the generator still won’t start.
- Electric heater replacement. The 120v in wall heater in the pilot house next to the port side door has not worked since we purchased the boat. I just ordered a replacement heater today which should be here by next weekend so that we can get it installed. If that goes well, we may then replace the heater at the bottom of the stairs by the after head since it does not seem to work at all. Completed January 28th.
- Electric heater replacement in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs by the guest cabin. This heater powers on, but it does not create any heat. Completed February 1st.
To Do – After the engine work
- Replacement washer/dryer. The one we have doesn’t dry at all, it seems to wash okay.
- New carpet throughout.
To Do – After this season
- New canvas. I am hoping that the current canvas will hold up for this season and that we can get the canvas replaced in early 2022 or later.
With the amount of work we have had to do on this boat in 10 months that we have owned the boat, it does make me wonder if we would have been better off with a boat that was about 10 years newer than this one. Who knows, a 14 year old boat rather than a 24 year old boat may have many of the same issues. Don’t get me wrong, we are really happy with this boat. I just think knowing what I know today versus 10 months ago I might have done a few things differently.
