Recap of the Simrad equipment upgrade
When we purchased the Bayliner 4788 motoryacht it had many of the original electronics that it had when it rolled off the factory floor 25 years ago. There were a couple additions with a chart plotter, and another depth finder, which appeared to be complete rubbish, and did not fuction.
Here are some of the before pictures, of the “Hunt for Red October” era equipment.
Next some of the after pictures.
And finally some of the “in progress” photos:
Here are some links to the other posts of the progress along the way. This was about 6 months from when we started, until we were able to get everything ordered and installed.
- Phase 1 – New Simrad VHF Radio
- Phase 2 – Installing the Simrad NSS16 evo3S 16 inch screen, along with new transducers
- Autopilot computer
- Phase 3 – New radar
- Patching some holes in the dashboard
- Fly bridge stereo and power
On our to-do list we still have a Simrad NSS9 Evo3 to install on the fly bridge.
In addition to all of this, I keep a laptop computer around with OpenCPN for navigation, and a tablet with Navionics just to be safe.
