Winter Monitoring
With this being the first winter of owning the 4788, I wanted to be sure that we don’t have any damage due to freezing. In the fall I posted about our monitoring computers that I had built to monitor the onboard temp and humidity.
Then we had problems with the Webasto hydronic heater which is out of service for the moment waiting on parts, so our only heat is the onboard heaters. Rather than running the heaters for 4 months of the year, wearing them out and building up a big electric bill, we only run the heaters when it gets below about 40 degrees inside.
Here is the current outside temp:
And here are multiple temp’s onboard the boat. 3 onboard temps, and one temp of the SeaDoo located in our uninsulated, unheated garage.
You may notice each has a Temp and a remote temp. The temp is the temperature about 6 inches away from the monitoring computer, and the remote temp is at the end of a 3ft cord. So for instance the engine room temp is a near the ceiling of the engine room crawl space, and the remote temp is at the floor level in the bilge below the port engine.
I can see that the engine room temp is starting to get cold, so I just turned up the heat a bit and I see that the temperature is trending up now. If it does not jump above 40 degrees I will take another heater down to the engine room.
