Backup / Docking Cameras
After getting a backup camera on my pickup truck and realizing how nice it was, I decided to do something similar on the boat. I started with 2 WiFi surveilance cameras that I will be able to view on the 23 inch screen that we mounted in the pilothouse. They are also viewable from my phone, and from our onboard tablet.
Using 2 types of cameras, both from Reolink, one was a 4 megapixel camera and the other a 5 megapixel camera. We will see how they perform, and decide which ones to go with for the other side of the boat.
Both are currently installed on the port side, one in the front pilothouse area near the side door, and the other in the rear salon area near the back of the side salon windows.
Here is the camera by the pilothouse window.
And this one is located along the aft salon window.
Here are the views from the cameras.
It is challenging to see the aft area of the boat when driving at either the flybridge or the pilothouse. These cameras will help get a better idea of where people are at, where other boats are at, and where the dock is in relation to the boat.
One of the reasons for going with these cameras is that they are 12v power, and we can wire them into the 12 power supply rather than using the AC 110v power.
Future expansion will be starboard side cameras, and a forward facing camera also.
The added benefit, the port after camera, and starboard aft once installed will work great as rear view mirrors when we are underway also.
