Pilothouse Chair Upgrade

I special thanks go out to BJ on his 5788 that we met at the Bayliner Rendezvous who inspired Marcia to purchase this seat. First off, its about time we did this. Since we have hated the pilothouse chair since we purchased the boat, and it is super uncomfortable.

Since the boat is temporarily out of service while we wait for our new generator to arrive, I figure why not to some fixup. Yes the generator failed beyond repair right before our beginning of June trip. As far as the generator replacement we have one ordered that should arrive at the vendor in Bellingham in the next few days. We are scheduled to have the boat hauled out, and bottom painted July 20th to July 27th. At that point they can use a fork lift to get the old dead generator out of the boat, and put a new one in.

So back to the pilothouse chair.

Here is the original pilothouse chair.

Besides being uncomfortable, the seat was falling apart, and the arm rests did not even line up at the same level.

So Marcia found one on PontoonStuff.com which didn’t have a base, so I decided to reuse the original base, since it was still in good condition.

The mounting brackets were different. the new chair had a 6 inch by 10 inch bolt pattern, where the original base a an 8 inch x 8 inch mounting configuration. With a couple of brackets from the hardware store 1 inch x 1 inch square 3ft long, cut into 13 inch sections and painted black. Shown here as the black bar with the holes in it. I was able drill some holes in the new seat, and adjust the span to fit the original base. It only took 2 trips to the hardware store.

And here is how it looks. What an amazing difference between the old and the new. Thanks Marcia for finding this one and ordering it.

Looking forward to our next trip to see how this works out, and if it works well, then the next step is to do the same swap on the pilothouse chair.
