Galiano Island – Montague Harbour

Since we crossed the border today the spelling of harbor changed to harbour.

Here are our distances so far.

And here is the route from Sucia Island to Galiano Island. It took about 3 hours.

Crossing the border was easy with our Nexus passes and already being in the system from last year. The one thing that we did learn to make the crossing easier is that rather than counting all the beer, wine and spirits on board, when they ask about alcohol on board Marcia simply stated “ships stores” as the term for yes we have alcohol on board but do do not have any plans on selling it, it is only on board to be consumed on this boat. We had heard about using this term, but and never tried it before, and it was very easy.

Once we checked in with the Nexus call in number we headed to Montague Harbor as our “check in point” and were told that they would call when we arrived there if they wanted to check the boat. Quick and easy, no inspection required, and no long waiting on the dock like we have done it the past, all thanks to the Nexus cards.

On the way, we stopped the boat briefly to wait for the big ferry boat to pass, and when we did we got hit with a side wake from another boat that rocked us a bit, which cuased some spilt coffee and the loss of our lucky ships gnome, who fell and broke his leg.

Tonight we are on anchor in a very calm harbour, tomorrow we head further north, and in a few days we will meet up with the Bellingham Yacht Club.
