A Day at Toba Wilderness Marina: Hiking, Swimming, and Prepping for Salmon Fishing

Today we awoke to the serene beauty of Toba Wilderness Marina, nestled deep in the heart of Desolation Sound. Today was one of those perfect days that blend adventure, relaxation, and a touch of preparation for the fishing excitement that lies ahead.

Morning Hike to the Waterfall

The day began with a challenging but invigorating hike up a steep hill to a nearby waterfall. The trail was rugged, with dense forest on either side, offering a true wilderness experience. As we ascended, the sound of rushing water grew louder, motivating us to push through the climb. Reaching the top, we were rewarded with the sight of a cascading waterfall—a refreshing contrast to the dense greenery surrounding us.

We spent some time at the waterfall, soaking in the natural beauty and cool mist that filled the air. The descent was much easier, and by the time we returned to the marina, we were ready for a different kind of refreshment.

Afternoon Swim in Desolation Sound

The waters of Desolation Sound were warm and inviting, perfect for a swim after the morning’s exertion. We dove in, feeling the gentle currents and savoring the tranquility of our surroundings. The water here is exceptionally clear, with an almost otherworldly quality that makes swimming in it feel like a special treat. After a leisurely swim, we lounged on the boat, drying off in the warm sun and enjoying the peacefulness of the remote marina.

Huge boats

Somehow our 50ft boat seems a bit small compared to some of the big boys here. Here is a video of the After Eight yacht docking today.

Downrigger Repairs: Getting Ready for Tomorrow’s Salmon Adventure

The day wasn’t all play, though. With plans to troll for salmon tomorrow, I took some time to work on our downrigger, which needed a bit of maintenance. There’s something satisfying about doing a hands-on repair, especially when it’s in preparation for a day of fishing. The downrigger is now in top shape, ready to help us bring in some salmon tomorrow.

Looking Forward to Tomorrow

As the sun set behind the mountains, we settled in for the evening, with the anticipation of tomorrow’s fishing adventure growing. Toba Wilderness Marina has provided the perfect mix of wilderness, relaxation, and readiness for what lies ahead. Tomorrow, we’ll set out early, with the hopes of catching a few salmon and adding another memorable experience to our journey.
