Day 8: From Susan Islets to Teakerne Arm – A Day of Waterfalls, Fuel Stops, and Paddleboard Mishaps
Today’s journey took us from the serene Susan Islets to the dramatic cliffs and cascades of Teakerne Arm, with a brief yet essential stop at Refuge Cove for fuel and provisions. We covered a total of 21.2 miles, ensuring we were well-prepared for the next leg of our adventure by loading 656 liters of diesel.
As we arrived at Teakerne Arm, the stunning waterfall immediately caught our eye. We decided to stern tie just a few hundred feet from it, setting the perfect backdrop for the day’s activities. The sound of cascading water created a soothing ambiance, and the cool spray was a refreshing contrast to the warm summer air.
With the boat securely anchored, we couldn’t resist jumping into the water for a swim. The invigorating dip was exactly what we needed after our day of travel. The clear, cold water provided a refreshing escape from the midday sun, and we found ourselves returning for several swims throughout the day.
The dogs were eager for their own adventure, so we loaded them onto paddleboards and set off towards the waterfall. They seemed to enjoy the ride as much as we did, paddling closer to the falls to feel the mist on our faces. Everything was going smoothly until we returned to the boat. In a split second, Benny decided it was time for a little excitement and tipped the paddleboard just as we were about to disembark. We all ended up in the water, not so much to Benny’s delight.
Despite Benny’s unexpected plunge, the day was filled with the kind of memorable moments that make this journey so special. Teakerne Arm, with its breathtaking scenery and the constant roar of the waterfall, offered a perfect mix of tranquility and adventure. As the day drew to a close, we settled in, grateful for another day of exploration and the endless stories that come with life on the water.
