Journey from Mound Island to Port McNeill: Day 24 of Our Adventure

Today’s journey took us from the serene surroundings of Mound Island at Blackfish Sound to the bustling hub of Port McNeill. We covered 27 miles, navigating through calm waters and stunning landscapes, arriving with a sense of anticipation for the next couple of days.

Wildlife Sightings The day started with an awe-inspiring display of nature. Shortly after leaving Mound Island, we were treated to the sight of two humpback whales breaching in the distance. Their massive bodies emerged from the water, creating a spectacle that never ceases to amaze, no matter how many times we witness it. As if that wasn’t enough, a couple of Minke whales also made an appearance, their sleek forms gliding gracefully through the water.

Arrival at Port McNeill Our arrival at Port McNeill marked a shift from the tranquility of the wild to the conveniences of civilization. This vibrant community is well-equipped to meet the needs of boaters, and we’re looking forward to taking advantage of everything it has to offer over the next two days.

Plans for Port McNeill Our agenda is full for the next 48 hours. We plan to stock up on provisions, refuel, and replenish our water supply. The town has a good selection of shops, so we’ll also do some shopping to prepare for the next leg of our journey. A few repairs and maintenance tasks are also on the list, ensuring that everything is in top shape before we head back out into the wilderness.

Port McNeill offers more than just practical amenities. We’re looking forward to exploring the town, perhaps visiting some of the local attractions, and soaking in the culture of this northern Vancouver Island community.

Looking Ahead After our stay in Port McNeill, we’ll be ready to continue our journey, refreshed and well-stocked. Each stop like this reminds us of the balance between the solitude of the open water and the comforts of shore, both of which are essential to a successful boating adventure.
