Our Journey from Fairwinds Marina to Rebecca Spit

Today marked a milestone in our boating adventures as we undertook a grueling yet exhilarating 9-hour journey from Fairwinds Marina to Rebecca Spit, with a scenic detour through Tribune Bay. Initially, Tribune Bay was intended to be our stopover, but the water conditions were so exceptionally calm that we opted to push further up the Straits of Georgia. The tranquility of the waters was mesmerizing, offering us a smooth and serene passage that we couldn’t resist extending.

This day stands out at 83 miles as the longest continuous stretch we’ve ever motored. Our reliable Cummins 6BTA engines powered us effortlessly, maintaining a steady and comfortable cruise. The sense of accomplishment was immense as we realized this was the most distance we had ever covered in a single day.

Our journey was not just about the distance but also about the awe-inspiring encounters we had along the way. Just at the north end of the Straits of Georgia, we were treated to a breathtaking display of nature. We spotted five majestic orcas gliding through the water, their dorsal fins slicing through the calm surface. Shortly after, six humpback whales made their appearance, their massive bodies rising and falling gracefully in the water. It was a spectacle that left us in complete awe, a reminder of the beauty and power of the marine world.

As we finally approached Rebecca Spit, the sun was dipping low on the horizon, casting a golden glow over the water. Despite the late hour, we felt a sense of relief and familiarity as we navigated into the harbor. Rebecca Spit is a favorite anchorage of ours, a place where we know the best spots to drop anchor and settle in for the night.

After we arrived at Rebecca Spit, Marcia fixed a 5 star meal of tenderloin steak, prawns, scallops and ceaser salad. You can’t beat that.

Tomorrow promises to be another day of exploration and discovery. Our plan is to venture into new territories, starting with Grace Harbor and then on to Susan Islets. These destinations are new to us, and the excitement of exploring uncharted waters is palpable. We look forward to the adventures that await and the stories we will gather along the way.

Stay tuned as we continue our maritime journey, discovering the hidden gems of these beautiful waters and sharing our experiences with you. Until then, happy sailing and may your journeys be as smooth and memorable as ours.
