Gorge Harbour to Tribune Bay

Today’s voyage from Gorge Harbour to Tribune Bay on Hornby Island was a perfect blend of nature’s elements working in harmony. While the waters weren’t completely calm, with small waves rolling across the Strait of Georgia, the wind was at our back, creating the illusion of a smooth and effortless passage.

Here is our departure from Gorge Harbour today.

Departing from Gorge Harbour, we set a course right down the center of the Strait of Georgia. As we moved further out, the water revealed its subtle motion—gentle swells that reminded us we were indeed crossing a significant stretch of open sea. Yet, with the wind behind us, the boat seemed to glide along effortlessly, riding the waves rather than battling them. The breeze at our stern made the journey feel serene, almost as if we were being gently pushed along by the hand of the wind itself. The trip was 50.1 miles but it did feel as long as other days that we traveled that far.

As we approached Hornby Island, the waves began to settle, and the outline of Tribune Bay came into view. Known for its wide, sandy beaches and welcoming waters, Tribune Bay is a gem of the Gulf Islands, a favorite destination for boaters seeking both beauty and tranquility.

Anchoring in the bay, we felt the full effect of the day’s journey—the gentle exhaustion that comes from being on the water, mixed with the satisfaction of a day well spent. Tribune Bay greeted us with calm waters and a peaceful ambiance, the perfect reward after our passage.

Before dinner we went to shore in the dinghy and had a short swim in the bay. They water was pleasantly warm.

Today’s trip was a reminder that even when the sea isn’t completely still, the right conditions can make all the difference. The wind at our back transformed what could have been a choppy ride into a smooth and enjoyable journey, one that carried us effortlessly to the beautiful shores of Tribune Bay. As we settled in for the evening, the small waves that had accompanied us across the Strait seemed like a distant memory, leaving us with the tranquility of the bay and the promise of another peaceful night at anchor.
