Journey from Tribune Bay to Nanaimo

After a serene night anchored at Tribune Bay, we set out on the next leg of our adventure, heading towards Nanaimo. The waters were calm as we made our way, with only a few small waves gently rocking the boat, making for a peaceful journey across the Strait of Georgia. The wind was at our back, pushing us along smoothly as we continued our passage homeward.

One of the highlights of the day was spotting a few humpback whales along our route. There’s always something awe-inspiring about seeing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, and today was no exception. Their graceful movements and occasional breaches never fail to captivate us, making the journey even more memorable.

Our trip today covered 43.7 miles, bringing our total distance traveled on this incredible journey to 965 miles. As we draw closer to home, it’s hard not to reflect on the many experiences we’ve had along the way—from serene anchorages and thrilling wildlife encounters to the camaraderie shared with fellow boaters.

Today’s passage also took us through the Whiskey Golf torpedo test range, an area we’ve carefully navigated around on previous trips. Fortunately, the range was open for travel, allowing us to transit through without detours. It’s always a bit of a relief to find the range open, saving us time and keeping us on course.

Upon arriving in Nanaimo, we couldn’t help but compare this visit to our time here last year when the temperatures soared to 90 degrees. This time, the mid-80s feel much more manageable, especially with the luxury of air conditioning on board. It really makes a difference, turning what could be a stifling evening into a comfortable and relaxing one. 82 degrees outside, and 65 in the stateroom.

For dinner, we decided to treat ourselves to a dinner at the Dinghy Dock Pub, a spot we’ve enjoyed before. This time, we opted to try something new and adventurous—the chowder poutine. A strange but surprisingly delightful mix of crispy fries topped with creamy chowder, it was a unique twist on comfort food that really hit the spot after a day on the water.

Nanaimo welcomed us with its familiar harbor and the promise of a few more days on the water before we reach home. As we prepare for the final legs of our journey, we’re both excited to wrap up this incredible adventure and eager to see what the last few days will bring.
