Jones Island

Sailing Through the San Juans: A Journey to Jones Island

After a delightful weekend with the yacht club, we set our sights on our next destination: Jones Island. The short 12-mile journey from Lopez Island brought our total distance traveled to 52 miles. Tonight marks our sixth night on this incredible adventure.

Jones Island State Park, nestled in the heart of the San Juan Islands, is a true gem. Accessible only by boat, this serene oasis offers a unique blend of natural beauty and tranquil solitude. The park features over 188 acres of unspoiled wilderness, with lush forests, scenic trails, and breathtaking waterfront views.

As we approached the island, we were greeted by the sight of rugged shorelines and verdant greenery. The island is renowned for its resident population of black-tailed deer, which are known to be quite friendly and curious. It’s a delight to watch these gentle creatures roam freely, adding to the island’s charm.

Jones Island offers several well-maintained campsites and mooring buoys, making it an ideal spot for overnight stays. We decided to explore the island’s network of hiking trails, which wind through dense forests and along stunning coastal cliffs. The views from the island’s western shore, especially during sunset, are nothing short of magical.

As we settled in for the evening, the peaceful ambiance of Jones Island enveloped us. The sound of gentle waves lapping against the shore and the rustle of leaves in the breeze created a perfect backdrop for reflecting on our journey so far. This secluded paradise has undoubtedly become one of the standout experiences of our trip.
